Pacers Drop Doubleheader To Falcons

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games to Pfeiffer by scores of 6-0 and 6-5.

The Pacers are now 5-3-1 on the season while the Falcons improve to 11-1.

After Hanna Hyder recorded the lone hit for USC Aiken in the first game, the Pacers jumped on top in game two by a 1-0 score.

Magan Thrower lifted a deep fly ball to left field, plating Leah Boghosian for the early lead.

The Falcons rattled off two runs in the second and two in the third for a 4-1 edge. Despite trailing by three, head coach Jerry Snyder's team climbed back in the game.

Sarah Sams led off the bottom of the third with a single and moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt by the catcher. Boghosian moved her to third on a sacrifice bunt. Hyder reached on an error, scoring Sams to make it 4-2.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth. Sydney Murphy ripped a single through the left side of the infield and moved to second on a botched play by the second baseman, leaving Chandler Terrapin at first.

With two down, Hayley Elkins came in as a pinch hitter and was abruptly hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sams blasted a base hit off the wall in left center field for a bases-clearing double. The hit propelled the Pacers to a 5-4 margin.

The Falcons used a gimmick play and managed to steal the game-tying run in the top of the seventh.

Snyder's team loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Courtney Strauss' hard hit ball forced Kristan Lowery out at second base to force extra innings.

Pfeiffer recorded a solo homer in the top of the seventh, but USC Aiken continued to fight back. Snyder's team loaded the bags once again, but the Falcons managed to come away with the 6-5 win.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Claflin at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
