AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a hard fought 67-64 game to Clayton State Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Markus Terry led the way with a team-high 14 points.
Faison Brock posted 11 points and snagged a career-high 14 rebounds en route to a double-double affair.
Doniel Dean tallied 10 points to go along with two steals.
Henry Bolton III accounted for nine markers and three assists while
Robert Hill garnered eight points, seven blocks and seven boards.
In the opening half, USC Aiken found itself trailing 17-10 before a bucket by Hill and a jumper from Dean, pulling the squad within three at 17-14 with 9:51 to play. The Lakers increased the lead to 31-21 with 4:23 to go, but head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team rattled off nine of the next 11 points, making it 33-30 at the break.
In the quick spurt, Terry canned a deep three and converted a free throw. Down 33-25, Terry took a pass from Bolton III and slammed home a thunderous two-handed dunk over an opposing player.
Paris Ballinger's three-ball off a pass from Brock made it a three-point contest heading into intermission.
USC Aiken took the lead on a free throw by
Tevin Lytes at the 17:03 mark, 38-37. The contest was a back-and-forth affair for the remainder of the game. The Pacers snagged a 44-40 edge on a jumper from Hill with 15:18 to play.
Vanderslice's team led 53-46 after a charity toss from Bolton III, but the visitors tied the game at 57-57 with 3:41 to go. The Lakers took the lead for good with 55 seconds remaining.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 19-of-60 shots from the floor (31.7 percent), including five-of-16 from downtown (31.3 percent). The squad got to the line 29 times and hit 21 attempts (72.4 percent).
