USC Aiken Falls In PBC Semifinals

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest to host and No. 3 seed Georgia College Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 25-5 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 23-6.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by rookie Alie Smith's team-high 13 kills. She contributed eight digs in the contest. Julia Forster and Kelsey Spurlin registered seven kills apiece.

Christine Carroll and Okwunne Ogbogu tallied four kills apiece.

Emily Teelon dished out 32 assists.

Defensively, Rebecca Martinez garnered a match-best 24 digs while dishing out three assists.

Trailing 10-5 in the opening set, the Pacers garnered kills from Carroll and Forster en route to pulling within one at 10-9. It was as close as the team would come to knotting the score the rest of the way in the first stanza in the 25-20 loss.

USC Aiken trailed 4-0 in the second frame and could get no closer than three at 12-9 off a kill from Smith. The Pacers dropped the set 25-17.

Cox's team jumped out to a 5-0 edge in the third frame. Smith and Spurlin opened the frame with kills. After an error by the Bobcats, Teelon served up an ace. Ogbogu and Spurlin combined for a block, but Georgia College managed to knot the score at 6-6.

USC Aiken maintained a 9-8 lead, but a 6-0 spurt by the Bobcats put the team ahead for good.

The Pacers await the NCAA Selection Show to see who they will play in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
