AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Augusta Friday evening in front of a raucous crowd.
The Pacers are now 14-2 on the season, including a 6-0 mark in league play. The Jaguars fall to 10-6 on the year and 3-3 in league action.
Emily Teelon posted a double-double and surpassed the 3,000 career assist mark with 43 assists and 22 digs.
Alie Smith led everyone by tying her career high with 18 kills. She notched a double-double with 13 digs.
Julia Forster climbed into the top 10 for career kills in the first set and notched 15 for the match. She hit double figures with 11 digs for a double-double.
Christine Carroll accounted for 10 kills while
Avery Macklin notched five.
Alicia Hines tallied three and
Natalie Perrault sliced the defense for a kill.
Defensively, the squad accounted for 93 digs.
Rebecca Martinez led everyone with 27 digs. Perrault notched 13 digs.
After dropping the first set, head coach
Glenn Cox's team bounced back for three straight set victories. Tied at 13-13, Smith slammed home a kill then served up an ace. Leading 16-14, Macklin had a kill and was in on a block with Hines for a four-point edge. A 4-0 spurt made it 22-15 and went on to claim a 25-17 victory.
USC Aiken tied the third frame at 19 but fell behind 22-21. With the score at 24-23 in favor of the home team, the visitors posted a block, forcing extra points. The Pacers had seven set points, but the Jaguars tied it at 31-31. Hines and Smith combined for a block for a one-point lead before Smith sealed the deal with a thunderous kill at 33-31.
Cox's group found itself tied at 15-15 in the fourth frame before Forster hammered home a kill.
Brynn Bonner recorded an ace. Then, Hines and Macklin stuffed a shot before Macklin put away a pass from Teelon for a 19-15 edge. Leading 21-19, Smith sliced the defense for back-to-back kills. An attack error by the Jaguars made it 24-19 before Smith completed the win with the kill.
The Pacers return to action Friday, Oct. 13, when they host Mars Hill (12 p.m.) and Tusculum (4 p.m.) in the PBC-SAC Crossover. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
