AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to North Georgia Saturday afternoon in a PBC contest.
The Pacers are now 4-7-1 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Nighthawks improve to 6-6 overall and 3-2 against conference foes.
Head coach
Ike Ofoje's team opened the contest with a pair of shots that were turned away by the Nighthawks' keeper.
Driss Baraket and
Chukwudi Apugo each blasted shots on frame in the first six minutes, but the score remained at 0-0.
Roberto Biendicho's attempt at the 11:33 mark was also stopped.
In the 13
th minute, the Nighthawks took a 1-0 lead and added a second goal 10 minutes later.
USC Aiken continued pushing forward as
Andre Simmond tallied a shot on goal in the 34
th minute. After a foul in the box in the 42
nd minute, Simmond blasted a penalty kick, but it was saved, preserving the score at 2-0 for the visitors.
Despite USC Aiken getting several good chances in the second period, the home squad was unable to get on the board.
North Georgia tacked on a late goal for the final 3-0 tally.
For the match,
Leonardo Targia played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped three shots.
USC Aiken outshot the visitors 19-10, including a 10-6 margin on goal. Ofoje's team registered nine corner kicks compared to five for the visitors.
