SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost on a last second shot at Armstrong State by a 61-59 score Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 10-8 overall, including a 6-3 record against league foes. The Pirates improve to 7-10 on the year, including a 3-5 mark against conference competition.
For the game,
Kwajelin Farrar narrowly missed a double-double performance with a game-high 16 points and team-best nine rebounds.
Emily Waters also narrowly missed out on a double-double after notching 10 points and eight boards.
Carly Gilreath totaled nine points to go along with a team-high four assists.
Jasmine Carter hit for eight points while
Melyk Taouil totaled six.

Jasmine Coach took a pass from
Jasmine Carter and converted a lay-up. Waters buried a jumper before Waters hit a mid-range shot to make it 15-13 heading into the second quarter.
The Pacers trimmed the deficit to a mere point when Coach converted a Gilreath pass into a basket, making it 16-15 just 33 seconds into the second period. The Pirates extended their lead to five on a pair of occasions in the quarter, but USC Aiken continued to battle back. After missing a jumper, Carter corralled her own rebound and made a lay-up, bringing the Pacers within one at 31-30 with 53 seconds to go. However, Armstrong State made a three-point shot with 32 seconds remaining in the opening half for a 34-30 lead at intermission.
Miller's squad trailed the Pirates 40-32 before Gilreath drained a long-distance three-ball. After a free throw by the home team,
Kate Duff twisted through the defense for a lay-up. An inside shot by Farrar pulled the visitors within two at 41-39 with 5:01 to play in the third quarter. Farrar netted another basket, tying the game at 41-41.
A pair of charity tosses from Waters gave USC Aiken its first lead of the game at 43-41, but a three-pointer by ASU gave the home team a one-point edge. The Pirates managed to hold a 50-46 lead heading into the fourth period.
In a back-and-forth affair during the fourth quarter, Gilreath made a pair of three-point baskets, giving the Pacers a one-point lead both times. After the Gilreath shot that put USC Aiken in front 55-54, Carter's lay-up with 6:55 to play pushed the margin to 57-54. Farrar's jumper off a pass from Taouil made it a 59-54 game with 4:21 to play. However, USC Aiken was held scoreless the rest of the way.
Tied at 59-59, Waters drove to the left and attempted a 10-foot shot that rolled around the rim twice before not falling. The Pirates grabbed the board and managed to win on a last-second shot.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 22-of-58 (41.4 percent) from the floor, but made just four-of-18 (22.2 percent) from the three-point stripe. The squad hit seven-of-10 from the foul line. Miler's team was out-rebounded 39-38.
USC Aiken dished out 14 assists and had one more steal and block than the home team.
