Second-Half Surge Leads USC Aiken Past Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team netted four second-half goals en route to a 4-0 victory at Oglethorpe Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 2-0 on the season, marking their best start since the 2011 campaign. That year, the squad started out 3-0.

After a scoreless first half in which head coach Hilary George's team had complete control, USC Aiken continued pushing forward to start the second period.

Monica Armendariz and Casey Rish both had shots that were turned away in the first eight minutes of play. Then, senior Abby Frick broke through with a goal at the 55:05 mark. Frick gained possession of the ball and blasted a shot that found the back of the net for her first career score.

In the 60th minute, Kaitlyn Armstrong found Sarah Drury for the first of two scores. Drury one-timed it into the goal for a 2-0 edge.

Sophomore Amanda Giordano netted her first collegiate goal at the 67:44 mark. It was not only her first collegiate goal, but also the first two points for the midfielder.

Rookie Kali Phillips got into the scoring by finding Drury in the 74th minute of action. Drury is the first USC Aiken student-athlete to net two goals in a contest since Hannah Allison did so in the 3-2 victory over Young Harris a season ago, giving George her first career win.

For the match, Sarah Moore posted six shots, including two on frame. Catherine McHale had five shots, including three on target. Giordano garnered four shots with two on goal.

Karin Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes. She stopped two shots on goal for her second straight clean slate.

The Pacers return to action Monday when they play at Belmont Abbey. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
