FLORENCE, S.C. – Six University of South Carolina Aiken baseball student-athletes were named to the Peach Belt all-conference team, which was released earlier tonight at the banquet.
Max Schoen garnered first-team accolades while Erik Davis, Joe Marlow, Zach Moon, Chaz Pal and Mitchell Price picked up second-team accolades.
Schoen is third in the PBC in batting average at .417. In league play, he upped his average to .430 on the season. On Feb. 20, Schoen tied the school record by smacking five hits in the 18-17 victory over Lander. Earlier this season Schoen boasted an 18-game hitting streak. He has 23 multi-hit games and is second on the team with 13 multi-run contests.
Davis sported a 4-2 regular-season record while throwing 64.2 innings. He posted a 3.06 ERA, which is tops on the team and second in the league. Davis garnered 10.44 strikeouts per game and maintained nearly a 3-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Davis had a career-high 11 strikeouts in the win over Lander and was nearly flawless in seven innings of shutout ball against No. 9 Florida Southern. Against the Mocs, he gave up two hits while striking out nine in the 4-0 victory.
Marlow leads the team and is second in the PBC with nine victories. He holds a 3.97 ERA and pitched 68 innings in the regular season. Marlow held opponents to a .285 batting average. He struck out 56 batters on the season. Marlow had a season-high eight strikeouts at Flagler and notched at least five strikeouts five times. His most memorable game could have been when he limited No. 9 Florida Southern to a mere one earned run while going eight innings of the 4-2 win.
Moon holds a .349 batting average on the season. His 15 home runs are fourth in the league while his 53 RBI has him in a tie for fifth. After helping USC Aiken to a 4-0 week with a win over Wingate and a sweep of Lander, Moon picked up PBC Player of the Week honors. That week, he hit .571 and slugged 1.286. Moon blasted three round-trippers and had seven RBI. He has 17 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI contests.
Pal registered a .344 batting average before suffering an injury at Flagler. He tallied eight round-trippers and 45 RBI on the year while slugging .548. Pal has scored five game-winning runs while delivering a pair of game-winning hits on the season. He has 18 multi-hit games and totaled 11 multi-RBI contests, including a four-for-four, five-RBI game against Montevallo. During the year, Pal reached base safely in 22 consecutive outings.
Price is seventh in the PBC in home runs with 13. After a stellar performance at UNC Pembroke, he picked up PBC Player of the Week and Region Hitter of the Week honors. Price is batting .325 on the season and has a team-best two triples. He is slugging .577 on the year and is second on the squad with 52 RBI. Price has 15 multi-RBI and multi-hit performances.
