Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 16-8 decision at Augusta Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 30-8 overall, including a 19-7 mark against conference competition. The Jaguars improve to 26-11 overall and 15-5 against league foes.
After falling behind 2-0, head coach Kenny Thomas' team bounced back with a pair of runs in the second.
Max Schoen drew a base on balls and was able to trot around the bases when Mitchell Price launched a two-run shot, tying it at 2-2.
Augusta, however, reeled off four runs in the third and six in the fourth for a 12-2 lead. The home team added one in the fifth for a 13-2 advantage before USC Aiken trimmed the deficit.
In the top of the sixth, Zach Moon singled to lead things off. With one down, Price roped a single, putting two on. Both managed to come home when Nile Goings blasted a three-run homer, making it 13-5.
The Jaguars managed to get the three runs back after scoring one in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh for a 16-5 edge.
Tyler Ammerman led off the ninth with a triple. After an out, Chaz Pal singled him home. Brian Parreira drew a walk, putting runners on first and second.
Moon laced a single, plating Pal. With two down, Price singled in Parreira for what turned out to be the final score.
For the game, Goings and Price each had three RBI. Price and Skylar Mercado had three hits apiece while Price crossed home twice. Moon and Charles Padilla tallied two hits each.
The loss mark Nick Yobbi's first of the season. He is now 5-1 on the year.
