MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 50 University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost an 8-1 decision at No. 19 Georgia College Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers fall to 12-6 overall, including a 4-5 mark against league foes. The Bobcats improve to 18-5 on the year and 8-2 against conference competition.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team was unable to deliver a win in the doubles portion of the match. Top-seeded Nadine Tusiama and Olivera Veskovac dropped an 8-2 score as did Kayla Calvert and Victoria Giannaccini at the No. 3 spot. Marie Habiyaremye and Sarah Bernos were unable to take a game, falling 8-0 at No. 2.
The Pacers' lone win on the day came via the play of Veskovac. She posted a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position in singles action.
Tusiama battled hard in the top singles spot, competing for three sets. After winning the first set 7-5, she lost the second 6-4. Tusiama fell by a 6-0 count in the third frame.
Calvert forced extra points in the first frame, but lost a 7-6, 6-4 match at the No. 3 slot.
Giannaccini battled hard at No. 4. She opened the match with a 6-1 win in the first set before falling 7-5, 10-8.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they travel to North Georgia for a 2 p.m. match.
