MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 49 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at No. 13 Georgia College Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 12-6 on the year and 4-5 against conference competition. The Bobcats improve to 12-6 overall and 4-4 against league foes.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team fell behind 3-0 after the squad was unable to post a victory in doubles action.
The closest USC Aiken came in doubles play came at No. 3 where Alejandro Andino and Hunter Lathrop lost an 8-5 count. Top-seeded Ettore Damiani and Julien Tan lost 8-2 as did second-seeded Mathias Degardin and Clement Raymond.
Damiani posted a superb victory at the No. 2 slot in singles action. He accounted for a 6-3, 4-1 win.
At the No. 3 spot, Degardin cruised to a 6-1 win in the opening frame before posting a 7-6 win in the second set for the victory.
Hunter Lathrop forced extra points in the first set at the No. 5 position, but lost by a 7-5, 6-0 score.
In a battle of top-25 players, Tan lost to No. 12 Yannick Hass by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they play at North Georgia at 2 p.m.
