USC Aiken Drops Doubleheader At Armstrong State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at Armstrong State by scores of 8-2 and 7-0.

The Pacers are now 23-13 on the season, including a 7-7 mark against league foes.

In the opener, head coach Jerry Snyder's team trailed 1-0 heading into the third inning. USC Aiken tied the contest off a swing of the bat by Sarah Montei, who launched the ball high over the left field fence.

With two down in the bottom of the third, the Pirates managed to plate five runs, taking a 6-1 lead.

USC Aiken threatened in the fourth and fifth frames, but a double play and a triple play ended both stanzas.

Snyder's team pushed across a run in the sixth inning as Sarah Montei led off by drawing a walk. Sydney Murphy pushed her to second with an infield single. Samantha Chubb's hard liner to center field plated Montei for an 8-2 count.

Chubb led everyone with three hits.

In the second game, Montei reached on a fielding error and promptly moved to second on Murphy's sacrifice bunt. A groundout pushed her to third, but she was unable to cross home plate.

The Pirates plated three runs in the first with two outs and USC Aiken was unable to get much going the rest of the night.

The lone hit of the game by Snyder's team came via Montei's bat – a single in the sixth inning.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Young Harris in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Live stats, video and audio will be available at PacerSports.com.
