Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 20 University of South Carolina Aiken softball team dropped the series finale at Flagler by a 7-5 score Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 33-14 on the season and conclude the conference portion of the schedule at 20-10. The Saints are 26-18 overall and 13-14 in league play.
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team was guided by Zach Moon and Luke Westerberg, who each had two RBI. Brian Parreira, Max Schoen and Westerberg all had two hits apiece.
USC Aiken jumped on top with a run in the second. Parreira led off the stanza by slapping a double to right center field. Schoen's bunt single put runners at the corners. After an out and a walk to Jonathan Banks, Westerberg hit a single through the left side of the infield for a 1-0 edge.
The Saints plated a run in the third and fourth innings, but Thomas' squad tied the game in the fifth when Skylar Mercado belted a round-tripper over the left field wall.
Flagler regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run to make it 3-2. The home squad increased its margin to 7-2 after plating a run in the sixth and three in the eighth. Despite trailing by five, there was no quit in the Pacers.
Nile Goings roped a single through the right side of the infield to lead off the ninth. Banks drew a base on balls to put runners on first and second. Westerberg blasted a ball back up the middle to score Goings. A walk to Tyler Ammerman loaded the bags with nobody out.
With two down, Moon hit an opposite field double that scored Banks and Westerberg to make it 7-5, but USC Aiken was unable to push across any more runs.
