USC Aiken Drops Fifth-Place Match

FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 50 University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to No. 32 Francis Marion in the fifth-place match at the Peach Belt Conference Championship.

The Pacers are now 15-9 on the season. The Patriots improve to 19-6 on the year.

Head coach Steve Dahm's team snagged a victory in the doubles portion of the match. The duo of Sarah Bernos and Marie Habiyaremye notched an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot. After that portion of the match, however, USC Aiken trailed 2-1.

The No. 6 and No. 5 singles matches were the next to finish as the Patriots jumped out to a 4-1 lead.

Dahm's squad battled back as Olivera Veskovac notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position, but a loss at No. 3 for USC Aiken ended the match.

Two matches were left unfinished.

The Pacers will now wait until the NCAA Selection Show to see if they will continue play in the NCAA Tournament.
