AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team picked up a victory over visiting Young Harris by a score of 6-3 Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers improve to 12-4 overall, including a 4-3 mark against conference competition. The Mountain Lions fall to 9-6 overall, including a 2-5 mark in Peach Belt play.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team jumped on top of the visitors by claiming all three doubles wins and cruised to the victory.
The top-seeded tandem of Nadien Tusiama and Olivera Veskovac posted an 8-3 victory. Playing as the No. 2 seed, the duo of Marie Habiyaremye and Sarah Bernos notched an 8-4 win while the No. 3 squad of Kayla Calvert and Victoria Giannaccini swept their opposition, 8-0.
Tusiama improved to 2-0 on the day after garnering a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 1 singles slot. Calvert overcame a 7-5 loss in the first set to reel off the overall win by claiming the next two sets, 6-1, 6-0. She was playing at the No. 3 spot.
Bernos posted the other singles victory for Dahm's team, which came at the No. 6 position. She downed her opponent by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
The Pacers return to action Monday when they travel to Armstrong State at 12 p.m.
