AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 49 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team bested Young Harris by an 8-1 score Saturday afternoon in a conference competition.
The Pacers are now 11-4 overall, including a 4-3 mark against league foes. The Mountain Lions are now 10-8 on the year.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and never looked back en route to the win.
Top-seeded Ettore Damiani and Julien Tan put together a solid match in the 8-6 win. Mathias Degardin and Clement Raymond teamed up for an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 spot while Alejandro Andino and Hunter Lathrop notched an 8-4 win at the No. 3 doubles position.
USC Aiken wasted little time in getting to five points to secure the win. Tan, playing at the No. 1 singles spot, bested his competition 6-1, 6-0. Damiani continued his strong play en route to a 7-6, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot.
Degardin took home a victory at the No. 3 position after breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Lathrop put together a strong match, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 slot. Andino continued adding to his win total at the No. 6 position, posting a 7-6, 6-3 victory.
The Pacers improve to 11-4 overall, including a 4-3 mark against conference competition. The Mountain Lions fall to 10-8 on the year, including a 1-6 record against league foes.
The Pacers return to action Monday when they travel to Armstrong State at 12 p.m.
