MORROW, Ga. - The No. 50 University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory at Clayton State to close out the regular season.
The Pacers improve to 14-7 on the season and 6-6 against conference competition.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team jumped to a 2-1 lead after a strong showing in doubles action.
USC Aiken's tandem of Nadine Tusiama and Olivera Veskovac notched an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot. Third-seeded Sarah Bernos and Marie Habiyaremye tallied an 8-2 victory for the 2-1 edge.
In singles play, Victoria Giannaccini finished first for the Pacers. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 slot. The Pacers pushed their lead to 4-1 when Bernos notched her second victory of the day by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Kayla Calvert clinched the team victory by netting a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position. Playing at the No. 5 slot, Habiyaremye tallied a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
USC Aiken concluded its day by winning at the No. 2 spot when Veskovac notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Playing at the top position, No. 29 Tusiama needed a little bit of extra time before posting a 7-6, 6-1 win.
The Pacers will compete ate the PBC Tournament.The bracket will be announced by the league office.
