ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost an 8-1 decision at Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 6-4 on the season, including a 1-3 mark against conference competition. The Saints are now 8-1 overall, including a 4-1 record against league foes on the year.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team fought hard throughout the match, but was unable to put together the overall victory.
In doubles action, the No. 3 tandem of Kayla Calvert and Victoria Giannaccini were the closest to pulling off a victory. Despite playing extra points, the squad fell just short, losing 9-7.
Giannaccini picked up the team's lone victory of the night. Playing as the No. 4 seed, she garnered a 6-1 victory in the first set before falling 7-6 in the second stanza. Giannaccini managed to win the third frame 1-0 (10-3).
Calvert played extremely well at the No. 3 spot, but came up just short. She won the first set 6-3 before falling 6-2 in the second set. Calvert dropped the match after falling by a 1-0 (10-7) score in the third.
The Pacers return to action Saturday, March 19, when they host Augusta at 11 a.m.
