BELMONT, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team netted a 9-0 victory at Belmont Abbey Tuesday afternoon.
The Pacers move to 11-4 on the season with the victory.
Head coach Steve Dahm altered his line-up a bit and USC Aiken responded in fine fashion.
The doubles tandem of Marie Habiyaremye and Victoria Giannaccini notched an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 slot. The dyad over Olivera Veskovac and Mariana Yamashita posted n 8-6 win at the No. 2 position. The tandem of Kanishka Chawla and Marta Quereda tallied an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 spot, giving the Pacers a 3-0 edge.
USC Aiken had little trouble securing the match in singles play.
Veskovac, playing at the top spot, earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Habiyaremye totaled a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position.
Giannaccini, playing at No. 3, garnered a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Quereda tallied a hard-fought 7-5, 10-8 win at the No. 4 position.
Chawla blanked her opponent in the first set, 6-0, before registering a 6-4 win in the second frame at the No. 5 spot.
Yamashita closed out the match with a three-set thriller, picking up the win 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.
The Pacers return to action Friday, Apr. 1, when they play at Armstrong State at 2 p.m.
