AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team picked up a 6-3 victory over rival Augusta University Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 8-3 on the season, including a 3-2 mark against league foes.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team started out strong, sweeping the doubles action. Top-seeded Ettore Damiani and Julien Tan tallied an 8-6 win while second-seeded Mathias Degardin and Clement Raymond needed extra time to defeat their counterparts, 9-7. Alejandro Andino and Hunter Lathrop teamed up for an 8-6 victory, giving the Pacers an insurmountable lead heading into singles action.
Tan improved to 2-0 on the day by registering a hard-fought win at the No. 1 singles spot. He posted a 7-6, 1-6, 7-6 win over his opposition.
Damiani, playing at the No. 2 spot, garnered a 6-2, 7-5 win to continue his stellar senior season. Degardin notched a win at the No. 3 slot by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
USC Aiken dropped a pair of three-set matches out of the final three contests, but the squad had already secured the team win.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they play at Lander starting at 1 p.m.
