COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team put forth a solid match en route to a 5-1 victory at Benedict Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 7-4 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team took a 3-0 lead after doubles play and was never seriously threatened afterwards.
In doubles action, top-seeded Nadine Tusiama and Olivera Veskovac teamed up for an 8-2 win. Victoria Giannaccini and Marie Habiyaremye garnered a hard-fought 9-7 win at the No. 2 slot. Kanishka Chawla and Mariana Yamashita teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Veskovac tallied a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 slot. Chawla wasted little time in a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 position. Savannah Melonas got her first playing time and made the most of it, totaling a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 6 slot.
Tusiama, Giannaccini and Habiyaremye were all ahead in their respective matches. However, they were left unfinished after USC Aiken clinched the match at 5-1.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Augusta at 11 a.m.
