Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team overcame a 4-0 deficit en route to a 5-4 10-inning victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers improve to 2-1 on the season while the Railsplitters fall to 1-2.
USC Aiken was led by Max Schoen's two hits, including a round-tripper. He posted a game-high two RBI as well. Brian Parreira also belted a solo homer. Tyler Ammerman had a pair of hits as did Jonathan Banks. Skylar Mercado and Zach Moon each drove in one.
The game was moving along rather quickly until the visitors got on the board in the sixth. The Railsplitters posted four runs on two hits and an error while leaving three runners on base after Lynch managed to get the last batter out via a swinging strikeout.
The Pacers countered in their half of the seventh inning with three runs, trimming the deficit to 4-3.
Parreira led off the stanza with a solo blast. Moon followed him up with a double down the left field line. After a pitching change and a pair of outs, Schoen pinch hit for Charles Padilla. Schoen quickly doubled to right field, plating Moon. Banks followed him up with a single to right field, putting runners on the corners. Mercado reached on an error, allowing Schoen to score the third run of the inning. However, USC Aiken was unable to add to its total at that point as Ammerman struck out.
In the ninth inning, head coach Kenny Thomas' team was down to its final out. Schoen knotted the contest with a solo blast, which forced extra innings.
As Davis had entered the game in the top of the ninth, he stayed in for the 10th frame. He gave up a single to right, but stuck out the next two batters.
Ammerman led off the bottom of the 10th with a single to left field. Chaz Pal singled and moved to second on an error, which allowed Ammerman to scoot to third. After an intentional walk to Parreira, Moon reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ammerman to score the game-winning run.
Nick Yobbi worked 5.1 innings. He struck out seven and gave up a pair of hits to go along with three runs, including two that were earned. James Lynch tossed 3.1 innings, striking out six. He gave up three hits and one run, which was unearned. Erik Davis got the win by going 1.1 innings. He struck out two and gave up just one hit.
