Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost an 8-1 decision to Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon in the middle game of the three-game set.
The Pacers and Railsplitters are now 1-1 on the season.
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team fell behind 4-0 in a strange first inning. In the frame, the visitors did not get a hit, yet batted around due to walks, an error and a catcher's interference.
USC Aiken was anxious at the plate, swinging at the first or second pitch on several occasions. That turned into quick work by the Railsplitters.
After the first stanza, Connor Riley settled down on the mound. He promptly got through the next three innings unscathed. However, he was saddled with the loss.
Thomas' team fell behind 7-0 after the Railsplitters tallied a three-run sixth inning, but the Pacers fought back. Chaz Pal blasted a rocket off Ethan Elliott for a solo round-tripper, making it a 7-1 contest.
The homer marked the lone run the team would score in the game.
For USC Aiken, Pal led the way with three hits. Max Schoen notched two base-knocks.
Trevor Hutto worked one inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Cole Lee tossed three innings of two-hit ball, giving up one run. He struck out four in the contest. Jordan Brown saw his first collegiate action, garnering one out while Jared Felix registered two-thirds of an inning.
