DUE WEST, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team remained undefeated with a 6-3 road win at Erskine Thursday afternoon in a non-conference clash.
The Pacers improve to 2-0 on the season with the victory.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play and never looked back. USC Aiken's top tandem lost by an 8-4 count, but the No. 2 and No. 3 squads pulled out a pair of close matches.
The No. 2 tandem of Sarah Bernos and Marie Aimee Habiyaremye notched an 8-6 victory over their counterparts. The No. 3 team of Victoria Giannaccini and Kayla Calvert won by the same 8-6 score , helping the team go ahead 2-1 heading into singles action.
Olivera Veskovac, playing at the No. 1 spot, led her opponent 7-5, 3-2. At that point, Veskovac won since Erskine's player retired from the match.
Dahm's team lost the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, but won the No. 3-6 positions, securing the win.
Nadine Tusiama garnered a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 slot while Giannaccini cruised to a 6-1 victory in the first set. She won the second set by a 6-4 score for the win.
Habiyaremye totaled a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they host Georgia Gwinnett at 2 p.m.
