Pacers Drop Doubleheader To Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a doubleheader at Pfeiffer Thursday afternoon by scores of 9-3 and 2-1.

The Pacers are now 9-3 on the season while the Falcons improve to 10-7.

After falling behind 3-0, USC Aiken bounced back in the top of the third frame. Magan Thrower led off with a single up the middle. With one down, Leah Boghosian reached on a fielding error, allowing pinch runner Taylor Allen to scamper to second. Samantha Chubb rocketed a pitch to right center field, driving in both runners to pull the Pacers within one at 3-2.

Head coach Jerry Snyder's team threatened to tie or take the lead in the fifth, but the team left runners on second and third. The Falcons answered with a run in the fifth for a 4-2 advantage.

USC Aiken scratched a run across in the top of the sixth when Thrower singled home Samantha Peka. However, the team had back-to-back outs to end another threat. In the bottom of the inning, the home team added five runs to secure the win.

In the game, Chubb and Terrapin accounted for two hits apiece. Both had a double in the contest. Chubb drove in a pair of runs while Thrower had one RBI.

USC Aiken fell behind 2-0 in the second game as the Falcons plated a pair of runs in their first at bat. Snyder's team, however, continued to battle throughout the game.

In the fourth, Sarah Montei singled up the middle, but was erased on Chubb's fielder's choice. Hannah Price laced a double down the right field line, moving Chubb to third. Sydney Murphy blasted a 1-1 pitch to center field, allowing Chubb to score while Price headed to third base. However, a double play ended the inning.

Thrower led off the fifth with a walk and Sarah Timmerman came in as a pinch runner. Julianne Leduc singled and Timmerman advanced to second but was out at third while Leduc went to second. Back-to-back outs ended the stanza.

USC Aiken put another runner in scoring position in the seventh but was unable to capitalize.

For the game, Taylor Morgan struck out 10 batters while allowing a pair of earned runs on four hits. She only walked two batters in the circle.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Francis Marion in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Live stats, video and audio will be available at PacerSports.com.
