HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 8 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is second after the first day of competition at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The Pacers are the lone Division II team in the field at the par-72, 6,913-yard course.
Campbell leads the way with an eight-under par, 568. Head coach Michael Carlisle's team wrapped up the first day of competition with an even par, 576, after the first 36 holes of play.
Louisville was leading after the first round of competition but fired a second-round score of 296. The Cardinals are one stroke behind USC Aiken.
UNC Wilmington (581) and Cleveland State (585) complete the top five teams in the 17-team field. There are 90 total players as five are playing as individuals.
Redshirt-sophomore Johnson Holliday opened the tournament with a three-under par, 69, before rattling off a two-under par, 70, over the next 18 holes. His 139 is good enough for second place heading into the final round of competition.
Hubert Tisserand is tied for 18th at the tournament with a one-over par, 145. He opened play with an even-par 72 before registering a one-over par, 73 over the next 18 holes.
Sophomore Axel Ostennson is tied for 21st. He started the tournament in fine fashion, posting a one-under par, 71. However, he tallied a three-over par, 75, for his two-over par, 146, total of for Day 1.
August Lindvall narrowly missed hitting par on the first round of play. He posted a one-over par, 73, before firing a four-over par, 76, on the next 18 holes. Lindvall is tied for 32nd with a five-over par, 149.
Samuel Schiff posted an eight-over par, 152, through the first 36 holes. After opening with a seven-over par, 79, he countered with a one-over par, 73, over the final round of play Monday.
