AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision to Columbus State Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 against league foes while the Cougars improve to 5-1 on the year.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team was swept in the doubles portion of the match, but the tandem of Sarah Bernos and Marie Habiyaremye came closest to pulling out the win in the 8-6 loss.
Nadine Tusiama took home a victory in the No. 1 singles position. She dismantled her opposition with ease, 6-2, 2-1, before her foe retired.
Olivera Veskovac pushed her opponent to extra points at the No. 2 slot, but was unable to pull out the victory, falling 6-3, 7-5.
Fourth-seeded Victoria Giannaccini fell by a 6-4, 6-3 count while USC Aiken picked up victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
Habiyaremye won a three-set match at the No. 5 slot. After falling 7-6 in the first set, she bounced back to win the next two by scores of 7-5, 10-5.
Bernos registered the team's third point of the day with her 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Limestone at 1 p.m., in a non-conference showdown.
