Caging The Lions
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead through four innings against Emmanuel, the Pacers cruised to a 9-5 victory. With the pitching pre-determined, Trevor Hutto looked sharp en route to the win. He struck out three and scattered five hits while shutting out the opposition.
Big Brian
Against the Lions, Big Brian Parreira smashed a round-tripper. With a man on, it was a two-run blast that gave the Pacers a 7-0 lead. Currently, Parreira is tied for the team lead with Zach Moon as each has two homers.
Deep In The Bullpen
In the win over Emmanuel, head coach Kenny Thomas used his bullpen a lot. In fact, after starter Trevor Hutto was taken out after the fourth inning, seven more Pacers got their turn on the mound. Austin Deal, Connor Norton, Hunter Hubbard, Mason Richardson, Jared Felix, Cole Lee and Nick Jobst all garnered time on the mound.
Ammerman Lights Up Pirates
Tyler Ammerman turned in an impressive performance in the series-opening game against Armstrong State. He went two-for-two at the dish with three walks. Ammerman made sure to make his hits count. He doubled and homered en route to a four-RBI performance in the 11-5 victory.
Big Joe Marlow
Joe Marlow came into the series-opening game against Armstrong State with one away in the fifth inning. He worked solidly on the mount, tossing 2.2 innings. He struck out two and did not allow an earned run en route to picking up his first win of the season.
Nick Is Jobst(ing) Opponents
Nick Jobst made sure to force the Pirates overboard in the final inning of the series opener. Jobst worked just one inning, but baffled Armstrong State with a pair of strikeouts. In fact, Jobst closed out the series with a scoreless frame Saturday evening. He struck out one Pirate in that contest.
Cleaning Up The Opposition
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team took on a nationally-ranked foe as No. 25 Armstrong State headed to Roberto Hernandez Stadium. His team quickly dismantled the Pirates, winning all three games rather easily. The Pacers won the opener 11-5 before completing the sweep with wins by scores of 14-9 and 8-4.
Pitchers Becoming Dominant
With an abundance of arms on the staff this year, head coach Kenny Thomas' best part of the team may be his pitching staff. Through seven games, USC Aiken is 6-1. The Pacers' pitchers carry a combined 3.23 ERA while the opposition holds a 7.60 ERA.
The Price Is Right
Leading 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth in the final game of the three-game series against the Pirates, newcomer Mitchell Price launched a solo homer on the first pitch of his at bat, giving the Pacers a 7-4 lead en route to the 8-4 victory. It marked Price's first long ball of the 2016 campaign.
Last Time Out
The USC Aiken baseball team last played Wingate in the season-opening game in 2009. The Pacers hosted the Bulldogs and blasted the opposition by a 15-6 count. The Pacers won two-of-three against Lander a season ago, including the final game of the series by an 8-3 count in Greenwood, S.C.
Against The Opponents
USC Aiken trails in the all-time series against Wingate, 9-6. However, the team won a 15-6 decision the last time out. The Pacers hold an advantage in the all-time series against Lander by a 36-21 margin. USC Aiken has won two of the last three in the series.
