Durian's Career Day Not Enough At Augusta

Box Score

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior Mariah Durian turned in one of the most impressive performances in school history, but it was not enough as the University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 67-64 contest at Augusta Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 9-16 overall, including a 4-12 mark against conference competition. The Jaguars improve to 20-5 on the year and 13-3 against league foes.

Durian, a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., poured in a career-high 33 points, which was the third most in school history in the Division II era. She canned 13-of-22 field goals from the floor. The Pacers took a 43-39 advantage midway through the third stanza, but Augusta fought back, taking a 49-48 edge on a three-point play with 1:23 to go.

USC Aiken trailed 51-48 at the start of the fourth quarter before Durian's lay-up closed the gap to one, 51-50. The Pacers would score five of the next six points thanks to a pair of free throws by Johannsen and a three-ball by Durian for a three-point margin.

Trailing by three in the final minute, Durian canned a deep three-pointer off a pass from Ball, knotting the contest at 64-64.

For the game, USC Aiken connected on 26-of-64 shots from the floor (40.6 percent), including 10-of-28 from downtown (35.7 percent). The squad got to the charity stripe just five times, making two attempts.
