Pacers Fall To Bulldogs In Non-Conference Contest

WINGATE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 67-54 decision at Wingate in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 4-7 on the year while the Bulldogs improve to 8-3.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Rachelle Aupont's 17 points and nine rebounds. Aupont saw time for 22 minutes and canned seven-of-14 from the floor, including three-of-eight from downtown.

Aupont and Kwajelin Farrar each narrowly missed out on double-double performances as Farrar accounted for 12 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Emily Waters chipped in five points while Melyk Taouil and Alexis Ware added four points apiece. No other Pacer had more than three markers.

Carly Gilreath distributed a team-best four assists while Farrar and Emry Tsitouris each had a pair of steals.

USC Aiken saw the home team net the first five points before getting on the board. The Pacers trailed 19-8 at the end of the first but rattled off the first five markers of the second period. Aupont took a pass from Taouil and buried a three-ball. The two connected again at the 8:49 mark when Taouil dished out a pass to Aupont who connected on a jumper.

Although Wingate would push the margin to 10 moments later, Miller's team trimmed the deficit to four after Aupont and Farrar netted baskets for a 28-24 score at the 3:59 mark. USC Aiken trailed 33-25 at the break.

The Pacers made it a five-point contest when Waters drained a shot from distance off a pass from Aubrey Lukacsko with 4:05 to play in the third, but that was as close as the team would get the rest of the way.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 22-of-59 (37.3 percent) from the floor, including five-of-15 from downtown (33.3 percent). The squad made five-of-15 shots from the charity stripe (35.7 percent).

Miller's team out-rebounded the home squad 46-43. The Pacers had 30 points off the bench compared to 25 by the Bulldogs. Each team was credited with four blocks.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Jan. 4, when they host the Bobcats of Georgia College at 10:30 a.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
