AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team erupted for a 75-point second half en route to a 116-60 victory over Southern Wesleyan Tuesday evening.
The Pacers improve to 6-1 on the young season.
Paris Ballinger led the way with a game-high 20 points. He also dished out a game-best seven assists. Ballinger canned three-of-four shots form downtown and made all seven charity attempts.
Christian Nobles poured in 16 points on seven-of-12 shooting while
Jalin Barnes tallied 13 markers.
Henry Bolton III and
Nenad Milenkovic posted 12 poitns apiece while
Robert Hill contributed a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He also swatted a career-best five shots.
Faison Brock totaled eight points and seven boards while
Kevin Chuisseu,
Raheem Freeman and
Kyle Tackeberry each netted five points.
The Pacers were hot from the field, canning 40-of-67 shots for 59.7 percent. Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team drained 15-of-28 shots from downtown (53.6 percent), which was one off the Division II school record. The Pacers also connected on 21-of-27 shots from the foul line.
The 116 points marked the second most points scored in USC Aiken's Division II history. The 40 field goals made are the fourth most in school history.
The Pacers trailed 3-2 but a lay-up by
Mark Matthews netted five straight points and the squad never looked back. Nobles went coast-to-coast for a lay-up to push the score to 17-6 at the 13:10 mark and Vanderslice's team never allowed the Warriors within single digits.
Freeman's lay-up with 26 seconds to play in the half made it a 41-19 contest at the break.
A 17-2 spurt near the midway point of the second half turned a 68-43 game into an 85-45 contest with 9:33 to go.
Hill's lay-up at the 4:11 mark off a pass from Ballinger allowed USC Aiken to eclipse the 100-point plateau, marking the first time since Nov. 25, 2014, the squad reached triple digits.
Every student-athlete that got into the contest scored at least two points for the victors.
