Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory over Georgia College Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Pacers are now 9-2 on the season, including a 2-2 mark against league foes.
Julia Forster led everyone with 12 kills while posting a .455 attack percentage. Ashley Diedrich notched a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Aly Johnson powered home eight kills against one error while hitting .538.
Emily Teelon added five kills while hitting .444 and Taylor Stratton totaled four kills. As a team, the Pacers hit .333 while holding the opposition to .041.
Teelon posted a match-best 31 assists to go along with five digs.
At the service line, the Pacers amassed 10 aces, including three by Shawn Hotson and Monica Cardona. Diedrich, Lauren Howard, Johnson and Teelon each had an ace.
Defensively, Cardona and Katie Toman shared match-high accolades with 13 digs apiece. At the net, Hines, Johnson, Jennifer Law and Teelon all recorded solo blocks.
Coming off a loss last night, the Pacers got back on track rather quickly. Johnson started off the match with a kill. Back-to-back errors by the visitors pushed the margin to 3-0. After a point by the Bobcats, Johnson, Diedrich and Forster each posted kills en route to a 7-1 lead.
With the score at 8-4, Diedrich, Forster and Teelon notched kills while Teelon stuff an attack. Leading 12-5, head coach Glenn Cox's team embarked on a 12-1 run. Hotson had a pair of aces during that stretch while Cardona had one.
The Pacers continued their hot start in the second frame, jumping out to a 10-1 advantage. Johnson, Forster and Diedrich each netted a kill to start the set prior to Forster and Johnson teaming up for a block to make it 5-0. Diedrich's kill pushed the score to 10-1, forcing a time-out by the Bobcats.
Head coach Glenn Cox's team slowly pushed the lead to 10 on an attack error by the visitors, making it 20-10. Law's first career block made it 22-11. She quickly tallied the next point on a kill. Forster and Ashley Lind each had a kill – and Lind's slam completed the 25-12 win in the second set.
After the intermission, Georgia College put forth a strong effort in the third frame. It was a back-and-forth affair in the early going and USC Aiken led 14-13 after an attack error. However, Forster answered with a kill and Diedrich served up an ace for a 16-13 lead.
Ahead 18-15, Stratton posted back-to-back kills before Teelon notched one as well. An error by the Bobcats and a kill from Johnson made it 23-15. Johnson's kill made it 24-15 and Howard's ace completed the 25-16 victory.
