Each week throughout the 2015 USC Aiken men's soccer season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.
Making Another Run
The USC Aiken men's soccer team put together its best season in school history in 2014. This year, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Ike Ofoje, has several student-athletes returning. The Pacers made it to the PBC Championship match and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The squad posted a 14-6-1 overall mark in 2014.
An Abundance Of Talent Returns
Virtually the entire starting roster from the 2014 team is intact for 2015. The Pacers lost just four student-athletes to graduation from last season. In fact, the team returns a pair of seniors that did not play last year in Jarrel Smalls and Edmund Eastick.
Returning All-Conference Players
Head coach Ike Ofoje's team boasted five student-athletes that earned all-conference honors last season. The 2015 team will have a very similar look as three of the all-PBC student-athletes return. Sandre Duncan, Jordan Misiri and Andre Simmond will look to lead the Pacers to a second consecutive NCAA berth.
Opening Away From Home
The USC Aiken men's soccer team will open its season on the road for the second consecutive season in a tournament hosted by Clayton State. In fact, this marks the third time in the last five years that head coach Ike Ofoje's team will begin its season in Morrow, Ga.
Tough Schedule
The Pacers play another tough schedule this season. The squad opens with Anderson and faces Erskine two days later. USC Aiken plays non-conference foes Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman, Shorter and Mount Olive, in addition to the Peach Belt Conference slate.
Smith Brothers Together For One More Year
The 2015 season marks the last year that Dean Smith will play soccer as a collegiate student-athlete. It also means that this is the last chance that he will get to play alongside his younger brother, Brett. The younger Smith is a rising sophomore that saw plenty of playing time as a rookie. He was also tabbed as a player that could make a significant impact on the team this season by head coach Ike Ofoje.
Home Opener Has A New Twist
In the past, Pacer Fandemonium has taken place the first day of classes. This marks a time when everyone in the community has a chance to meet the student-athletes from each of the teams. This year, Pacer Fandemonium will take place at the home-opening doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne on Sept. 9.
Last Time Out Against Anderson; Erskine
Head coach Ike Ofoje's team has squared off against Anderson and Erskine before. The Pacers hold a 5-3 overall record against Anderson in the all-time series. However, USC Aiken has dropped the last two outings, the last of which occurred in 2011 by a 6-0 count in Morrow, Ga. Ofoje's squad is 3-6-2 in the all-time series against the Flying Fleet. The Pacers have dropped two straight in the series, including a 2-0 decision in the opener last year in Morrow, Ga.
