Each week throughout the 2015 USC Aiken cross country season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.
Off To A Solid Start
The University of South Carolina Aiken cross country team had a solid showing at the Bobcat Classic. The team took home second place and had four runners in the top 10. This should give head coach Kara Kreutzer's team the confidence it needs throughout the rest of the season as her runners stayed right with the Bobcats of the host institution.
A Welcome Surprise
Rookie Bethany Fordham put forth an outstanding effort in her collegiate debut. She finished just outside the podium, taking fourth in the 5k event. Fordham finished in 24:08 for a solid run.
Bruneio Is Back In The Mix
Sophomore Amanda Bruneio was a surprise addition to the team after the start of the 2014 season. Despite not feeling 100 percent throughout preseason, Bruneio was second on the team, taking sixth overall at the Bobcat Classic.
Four In The Top 10
Head coach Kara Kreutzer's team had four student-athletes that finished with top-10 times at the Bobcat Classic. Leading the way was Bethany Fordham in fourth place. Two spots behind her was Amanda Bruneio. Brook Thomas and Samantha Lisek rounded out the top 10 by finishing in ninth and 10th, respectively.
Lisek's Last First Run
Senior Samantha Lisek took part in her last first run, which came at the Bobcat Classic. Lisek garnered a 10th-place finish, crossing the line in 26:35. She has an extra year of eligibility, but is set to graduate in the spring.
Dudley Do-Right
Sophomore Makayla Dudley, running in her first collegiate meet, performed well at the Bobcat Classic. She narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish, taking 11th after crossing the finish line of the difficult course in 26:51.
One Is The Loneliest Number
The USC Aiken cross country team will be a youthful squad in 2015 and 2016. Head coach Kara Kreutzer has just one upperclassman on the roster, coming in the form of senior Samantha Lisek. She is a senior academically but has two seasons of eligibility left, should she decide to use both.
Meet The Newcomers
Head coach Kara Kreutzer has five newcomers on this year's team, but only two are freshmen. The Pacers added junior Brooke Inman, sophomores Makayla Dudley and Amber Laughinghouse and rookies Bethany Fordham and Brook Thomas.
This Year's Schedule
This season, the USC Aiken cross country schedule is once again loaded with strong meets against quality teams. After opening with the Bobcat Classic, the team heads to the 3rd Annual North Georgia Invitational before hosting the USC Aiken Invitational. The Pacers partake in the Francis Marion Invitational as the last regular-season meet. From there, USC Aiken will run at the PBC Championship and the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship.
Last Time Out At The North Georgia Invitational
Last season, USC Aiken recorded an eighth-place finish at the inaugural North Georgia Invitational. Former Pacer standout Alexis Harvin was the top finisher on the team, taking 33rd. Kyah Owusu finished in 25:26 while Samantha Lisek was three spots behind her after finishing in 26:10.
