Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team registered a second-half goal en route to a 1-1 draw at Carson-Newman Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-1-2 on the season.
Playing in the program's 500th career match, the host school managed to take a 1-0 lead at the 24:51 mark.
After USC Aiken kept the home team from tacking on any more goals in the half, head coach Ike Ofoje's squad was more aggressive in the second period.
In the 50th minute, Sandre Duncan booted a shot that was wide of the frame. Dean Smith came up from his position and rocketed a shot toward the goal that was saved at the 59:04 mark. Forty-eight seconds later, Edmund Eastick tallied a shot that was wide.
Andre Simmond managed to break through at the 62:21 mark. Simmond flicked the ball to Nathan Shanko, who played it back to a cutting Simmond, who promptly found the back of the net, making it 1-1.
Jarrel Smalls had a shot that seemed destined for the goal, but it was blocked in the 73rd minute of work. Smalls added a shot on goal in the 85th minute, but he was turned away.
In the first overtime session, Gabriel Locher and Shanko each registered shots that missed wide of the goal. Ofoje's team had just one more shot in the contest, coming off the boot of Simmond in the second overtime period. However, it was blocked and the teams finished with the 1-1 draw.
For the match, the Pacers held a 13-10 advantage in shots. Additionally, the squad held an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.
Andre Bernardini played all 110 minutes between the pipes, totaling four saves.
