AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost a hard fought 5-3 decision to Anderson Thursday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 7-9 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team put up a strong battle in doubles action but was unable to secure a point.
The top-seeded tandem of Sarah Bernos and Oliver Veskovac lost an 8-5 decision while the duo of Kayla Calvert and Shauna Williams lost by an 8-3 count at the No. 2 spot. Marie Habiyaremye and Sabrina Tam fell by an 8-3 score at the No. 3 slot.
In singles action, USC Aiken got in the win column as Williams provided the squad with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position. Bernos accounted for a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Fourth-seeded Calvert lost her first set 6-2, but rallied for a 6-1, 7-6 three-set thriller for the victory.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host conference foe Montevallo starting at 11 a.m.
