Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team registered a 6-0 victory over visiting Emmanuel Thursday evening.
The Pacers improve to 31-13 on the season.
Leading the way for head coach Kenny Thomas' team was TJ Costen as he had two of the team's five hits. He also drove in a game-high two runs. Sean Miller, Zach Moon and Chaz Pal all had a hit. Miller, Moon, Pal and Rob Youngblood all drove in one run. Moon scored twice while Costen, Miller, Tyler Moore and Pal each crossed home once.
Hunter Hubbard picked up the victory, working 4.1 innings of relief. He struck out eight batters while giving up just four hits. Between Erik Davis, Connor Norton, Joe Marlow, Hubbard and Sam Daniel, the Pacers struck out 16 batters.
With two down in the first, Moon singled home Moore, who had walked before scampering to second on Pal's groundout for a 1-0 advantage.
The score stayed the same until the fourth. Pal doubled to center field to lead things off. Moon was hit by a pitch. Costen doubled home Pal for a 2-0 edge. Miller roped a single to right, scoring Moon while Costen advanced to third. Luckett's fly ball scored Costen. Three batters later, Youngblood's sacrifice fly plated Miller for a 5-0 lead.
In the seventh, Moon walked with two outs. At the crack of the bat with Costen at the plate, Moon took off and raced home, scoring on Costen's triple to the right-center field gap. The run made it a 6-0 game.
Marlow retired the side in order in the eighth as did Daniel in the ninth, helping the team to the shutout victory.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Flagler in a doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m.
