Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team notched a 10-6 non-conference road victory at GRU Augusta Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 30-13 on the season.
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team had six student-athletes register two hits. Ty Barkell, Kody Belcher, TJ Costen, Randy Luckett, Tyler Moore and Rob Youngblood posted two hits apiece in the 15-hit barrage.
Barkell and Moore led the way with two RBI apiece. TJ Costen, Luckett and Moon each drove in one. Youngblood scored a game-high three runs while Belcher and Luckett each scored twice. Costen, Sean Miller and Moore crossed home once apiece.
Matt Hissong picked up the victory. He threw four innings, giving up three earned runs. Hissong struck out two without walking anyone. Nick Yobbi tossed three innings of relief while Cole Lee and James Lynch each worked a scoreless stanza.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second inning, Costen launched a solo homer over the center field wall with two down, knotting the contest.
USC Aiken took the lead for good in the third frame. Luckett led off with a single before moving to second as Youngblood reached on an error. Belcher laid down a bunt for a single, loading the bags. Moore reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Luckett to score. With one down, Barkell ripped a single to right, scoring two more. Moon's sacrifice fly plated another run for a 5-1 edge.
The Pacers increased their margin to 8-1 after scoring three more in the fourth. Luckett's double plated Miller, who had led off the inning with a single. After Youngblood singled, Luckett scored on a balk. Then, with one down, Moore's double drove in Youngblood.
The Jaguars scored two in the fourth before picking up a single run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. However, Thomas' team would add two insurance runs in the eighth inning.
With two down, Youngblood got things going with a single to left. Belcher singled up the middle, putting runners on first and second. Moore's single to third base. On the play, Youngblood and Belcher each scored on a throwing error, making it 10-6.
Lee and Lynch came in for the last two innings and caged the Jaguars en route to the four-run victory.
