Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken cruised past Paine Tuesday evening by a score of 18-0 in non-conference action.
The Pacers improve to 29-13 on the season.
Ty Barkell, Zach Moon and Chaz Pal shared team-high honors with three hits apiece for head coach Kenny Thomas' team. Moon drove in a game-high four runs while Barkell and Randy Luckett each had three. Tyler Moore notched two RBI while Kody Belcher, Nile Goings and Sean Miller had one apiece.
Pal crossed home plate three times to lead USC Aiken. Douglas Ard, Barkell, Belcher, Luckett and Moore each scored twice while TJ Costen, Goings, Miller, Moon and Rob Youngblood crossed home once apiece. Ard tied the school record as he was hit by three pitches.
Luckett and Moon pounded out homers while Costen added a triple. Moore had a pair of doubles while Luckett, Moon and Pal all recorded a double apiece.
Jared Felix picked up his first victory as a Pacer. He worked 3.1 innings of relief, striking out four batters while allowing just two hits.
Forrest Koumas started the game and struck out two in an inning. Ben Black pitched an inning and also struck out a pair of batters. Trevor Hutto worked 1.2 innings, fanning two batters. After Felix pitched, Collin Beasley finished off the last two innings and struck out a career-high five batters while giving up just one hit.
In the bottom of the first with two outs, Pal singled and swiped second. He scored on Barkell's single for what turned out to be the game-winning run. Moon followed him up with a single, plating Barkell for a 2-0 edge.
Two innings later, Thomas' team broke open the contest. With one down, Moore doubled down the line and moved to third when Pal reached on an error. Barkell singled home Moore and Pal swiped third before scoring on an error. Moon blasted a two-run homer.
Costen tripled and scored on Miller's single for a 7-0 margin. Ard was hit by a pitch, pushing Miller to second. When Youngblood flied out, Miller scampered to third before coming home after Ard swiped second.
USC Aiken plated four runs in the fifth. Moore got the scoring going with a double to center, scoring Belcher and Ard. Two batters later, Barkell singled in Moore. Moon followed him up with a double to left, plating Pal.
In the sixth, Belcher's single scored Ard, who had been hit by a pitch. Goings rocketed a single to left, scoring Youngblood, who had singled. With two down, Luckett doubled home Goings and Belcher. Moon followed him up by reaching on an error, allowing Luckett to score.
The Pacers completed the scoring in the eighth when Luckett launched a one-out homer over the left field wall.
