USC Aiken Falls To GRU Augusta, 6-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision to GRU Augusta Friday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference competition.



The Pacers are now 8-9 on the season and 2-7 against league foes.



Head coach Steve Dahm's team fell behind 3-0 after doubles competition. Top-seeded  Julien Tan and Alejandro Andino pushed their opponents to a 9-7 contest while second-seeded Mathias Degardin and Andy Quirk fell just short in an 8-4 match.



Tan managed to get a victory at the No. 2 slot in singles action. He dropped the first set 5-7 before winning 6-0 in the second frame and battling for a 7-6 score in the third.

Quirk garnered the team's second win, which came at the No. 3 position. He won both sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0, respectively.

The third win came in a hard fought match by Clement Raymond in the No. 6 position. He lost the first set 6-4, but fought back and took the last two sets, 7-5 and 6-3.

The Pacers return to action Saturday, Apr. 18 when they host Flagler in a match slated to start at 11 a.m.
