Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team jumped on top 9-0 en route to a 14-3 victory over visiting Emmanuel Thursday evening.
The Pacers are now 28-13 on the season with the win.
Senior Ty Barkell tied the school record with a five-hit performance. He was five-for-five with a pair of doubles and three singles to go while scoring three runs.
Kody Belcher and Randy Luckett each had three hits while Sean Miller added two. TJ Costen, Nile Goings and Chaz Pal added one hit apiece.
Pal and Youngblood drove in three apiece while Belcher and Miller added a pair of RBI each. Goings, Luckett and Zach Moon all had one RBI apiece. Belcher and Luckett scored three times apiece while Douglas Ard and Costen crossed home twice each. Youngblood made his way around the bases once.
Belcher led off the first with a single and scampered to second on a throwing error. After a groundout, he scored on Pal's sacrifice fly.
In the second, head coach Kenny Thomas' team went to work. Barkell led off with a double. After walks to Luckett and Ard, Barkell trotted home on Youngblood's sacrifice fly. Belcher reached on an error, allowing Luckett to score. Miller singled to the shortstop before Pal walked in a run. Moon's sacrifice fly pushed the score to 5-0 for the Pacers.
USC Aiken had another big inning in the third as Barkell singled to third base. Luckett singled and Ard walked, loading the bases. After changing pitchers, Youngblood drew a walk for a 6-0 edge. Belcher doubled in a pair of runs. With one out, Pal singled home Youngblood for a 9-0 margin.
The Lions scored in the top of the fifth, but Thomas' squad answered when Miller doubled home Belcher. The home squad tacked on three more in the sixth. Costen scored when Youngblood reached on an error. Goings singled home Barkell and Miller's fielder's choice allowed Luckett to score.
USC Aiken added a run in the bottom of the seventh. With one down, Costen reached on an error. Barkell doubled to center field, pushing Costen to third. Luckett came up huge, singling to left as Costen raced home for a 14-1 lead.
Emmanuel added a pair of runs in the eighth inning, but could get no closer in the contest.
For the game, USC Aiken pounded out 14 runs on 16 hits with one error.
On the mound, Matt Hisson worked five innings, striking out six while giving up just one run en route to picking up the win. Erik Davis tossed two innings of flawless work, striking out five. Connor Norton struck out two as did Hunter Hubbard.
