Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at North Georgia Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 20-10 overall and 11-7 against conference competition.
In the opener, Taylor Morgan took the loss despite holding the top-10 team to a mere three hits. She struck out 10 batters while walking just one in the complete-game effort.
Head coach Jerry Snyder's team was held to just one hit in the outing.
The home team scored its first run on a wild pitch before registering an inside the park homer for its only other run.
In the top of the fifth, Ashley Metts wrapped a single through the left side of the infield. With one down, Andrea Daring reached on a fielder's choice, which eliminated Metts from the baes paths. However, the next two batters were unable to get on base, ending the inning.
The Nighthawks scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth. USC Aiken was unable to get another runner on base, ending its hope for a comeback.
The Pacers found themselves trailing 4-0 in the second game after North Georgia plated two runs in the third and the fifth.
Sydney Murphy blasted a double into left center field in the sixth inning, but USC Aiken was unable to push her across.
In the seventh, Samantha Chubb led off the frame with a walk. With one down, Victoria Burkett singled. Andrea Daring ripped a double down the left field line, plating Chubb and pushing Burkett to third. However, Snyder's team was unable to plate another run.
Danielle Payne took the loss for USC Aiken, giving up four runs in 4.2 innings of work. Morgan threw 1.1 innings of relief, giving up just one hit while striking out one.
The Pacers return to action Sunday when they play a doubleheader at Georgia College starting at 1 p.m.
