Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken jumped out to an 8-0 lead en route to a 13-10 victory over the visiting GRU Augusta Jaguars Friday evening.
The Pacers improve to 25-13 on the season, including a 14-11 mark against conference competition.
Sean Miller led the way with four hits while Kody Belcher, Tyler Moore and Rob Youngblood each pounded out three base knocks. Chaz Pal accounted for a pair of hits while TJ Costen, Randy Luckett and Zach Moon all had one hit apiece.
Pal led the way with four RBI. Belcher, Miller and Moon each had two while Costen, Luckett and Youngblood drove in one apiece.
Belcher and Moore each scored three times while Miller and Pal crossed home twice each. Costen, Luckett and Youngblood all scored once apiece.
In the circle, Forrest Koumas got the win after throwing six innings of work. He struck out four batters. James Lynch picked up his sixth save of the season in the win, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Belcher led off the bottom of the frame with a bunt for a single. He moved to second on Moore's single to left. Pal ripped a double into the gap, plating both runners. He moved to third on the throw before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Moon for a 3-0 edge. Miller singled and stole second with two outs before crossing home on Luckett's infield single.
USC Aiken went back to work in the second frame. With one down, Belcher roped a single to center and scampered to second on Moore's single to left. Pal doubled home the pair for a 6-0 margin. Two batters later, Costen ripped a single to center, scoring Pal. After Costen swiped second, Miller's single pushed the score to 8-0.
The Jaguars scored a run in the fourth, but the Pacers battled back in the fifth with four more runs.
Miller led off the stanza with a solo homer. With one down and Luckett on third, Youngblood slapped a single to left, driving in a run. Belcher went opposite field for a two-run homer and a 12-1 lead.
GRU Augusta scored a run in the sixth before getting back in the contest with five runs in the seventh. The Pacers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, coming off Moon's single to left that scored Moore.
The Jaguars made it a 13-10 game by scoring three runs in the eighth inning, but Sam Daniel forced an infield fly for the last out.
In the top of the ninth, Lynch came in during a save opportunity. After recording an out on the first pitch, lightning struck and forced the game to be postponed for nearly an hour.
Once play resumed, he needed just a few pitches to record the final two outs and pick up the save.
