Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team cruised past Paine Wednesday evening by a score of 12-4.
The Pacers are now 22-11 on the season.
TJ Costen led the way with three hits while Zach Moon, Tyler Moore, Max Schoen and Rob Youngblood all had two hits apiece.
Moore drove in three runs while Kody Belcher, Sean Miller and Schoen each knocked in two runners. Belcher scored three times. Moon, Schoen and Youngblood each crossed home twice.
For the game, head coach Kenny Thomas' team pounded out 12 runs on 17 hits while the Lions accounted for four runs on six hits with two miscues.
On the mound, Matt Hissong worked six innings to get the win. He gave up three runs on four hits while striking out a pair of batters. Connor Norton, Jared Felix and Hunter Hubbard all saw time on the mound.
Thomas' squad jumped on top with a run in the first two innings before plating a pair of runs in the third and fourth stanzas. The team broke open the game in the fifth with four more runs. The Pacers tacked on a run in the sixth and seventh frames. The only time the team didn't score was in the eighth.
Belcher led off the first with a walk and promptly stole second. He scored when Costen reached on an error. In the second, Belcher's sacrifice fly made it 2-0 as Schoen trotted across home plate.
Paine scored a run in the top of the third, but USC Aiken quickly countered with two runs of its own. With one down, Chaz Pal singled and moved to second on Moon's base hit. Miller's double allowed both runners to score, making it 4-1.
In the fourth, Moore doubled in Youngblood and Belcher. Youngblood had reached on a single to left and Belcher was hit by a pitch.
The Pacers added to their lead with four runs in the fifth. With one down, Matt Bosse walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. He quickly stole third and scored on Schoen's single to right field. A walk to Youngblood put runners on first and second.
Belcher laced a double down the right field line as Schoen scored. Costen singled home Youngblood and Moore's base hit plated Belcher.
Paine tallied a two-run homer in the sixth, but the USC Aiken offense went back to work.
Schoen ripped a single to right field and Moon swiftly scored. USC Aiken posted its final tally of the night when Pal roped a single to right field that allowed Costen to score.
The Lions added a run in the ninth, but the home team registered the victory.
