AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team picked up a sweep of Georgia Southwestern with a 12-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 14-6 on the season, including a 7-5 mark against conference foes.

Ty Barkell led head coach Kenny Thomas' team with four RBI. Barkell, Kody Belcher and Sean Miller all had three hits apiece. Belcher drove in two runs while scoring three times. TJ Costen trotted across home plate three times as well. Barkell, Miller and Douglas Ard scored twice apiece.

USC Aiken jumped on top of the Hurricanes with three runs in the first and four more in the second stanza and never looked back.

With one down in the first, Belcher and Miller scored when Chaz Pal singled. Randy Luckett lofted a sacrifice fly to center field for the team's third run of the inning.

In the second, Ard led off the frame with a single to center field. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, Ard raced home on Belcher's single. Costen's double plated Belcher. Costen scored when Barkell hammered a homer for a 7-0 advantage.

After the Hurricanes scored a run in the bottom half of the frame, Thomas' team bounced back, plating two in the fourth.

Barkell's single allowed Costen to cross home. Three batters later, Barkell raced home on a wild pitch for a 9-1 score.

The pitching staff cruised through the next three innings and then USC Aiken's bats went back to work.

In the seventh, Belcher doubled home Ard and Miller. After Costen was hit by a pitch, Barkell smashed a double to center, scoring Belcher for a 12-1 margin.

For the game, Thomas' team tallied 12 runs on 15 hits with one miscue. The Hurricanes totaled one run on five hits but committed four errors.
