AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team pounded out 26 hits in the 19-11 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday.

The Pacers are now 13-6 on the year and 6-5 against conference competition.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team was led by Chaz Pal, who tied the school record with five hits. Pal was five-for-six with a pair of doubles and five RBI. He also crossed home three times.

Ty Barkell, Cory Bryant, Matt Bosse, Sean Miller and Tyler Moore all had three hits apiece. Barkell and Miller each drove in three while Bryant and Zach Moon drove in two apiece. Bosse, Moore and Randy Luckett each had one RBI.

In addition to Pal, Barkell, Bosse and Moore all crossed home three times apiece. Bryant, TJ Costen and Moon scored twice each while Miller scored once.

Joe Marlow picked up the victory after working three innings of relief. He gave up three runs on two hits, but struck out three. Marlow came in for Matt Hissong, who worked two innings. Nick Yobbi replaced Marlow and he struck out a pair. He gave up one run on two hits. Sam Daniel didn't allow a run in an inning and he struck out two. Hunter Hubbard allowed a run in the ninth, but shut the door on the Hurricanes as he turned two away via a strikeout.

USC Aiken jumped on top with a run in the first and a run in the second innings. In the third, the team plated two for a 4-0 margin. Barkell's grounder in the frame allowed Moore to score. Pal then laced a single up the middle, plating Costen who had reached on an error.

Georgia Southwestern plated six runs in the bottom of the frame, but Thomas' team answered with four in the top of the fourth.

Miller started things off with a sacrifice fly, plating Bosse. Moore's double scored Bryant, knotting the score at 6-6. Two batters later, Barkell roped a double to center, allowing Moore to cross home. Pal's double brought home Barkell for an 8-6 lead. However, the Hurricanes would tie it in the fifth.

USC Aiken put the game away in the sixth when Moon's single scored Barkell and Pal. After he moved to second on a balk and swiped third, Moon scored when Bryant singled to right. Bryant stole second and moved to third on an error while Bosse trotted home. Miller's base hit plated Bryant and gave the visitors a 13-8 margin.

Although Georgia Southwestern would score one in the sixth, Thomas' team answered with two in the seventh.

Pal and Bosse each had base hits that drove in runners in the inning. The Pacers tacked on three more in the eighth as Pal doubled to center, driving in two. Luckett got into the act with a single up the middle that scored Pal.

USC Aiken completed its scoring in the ninth when Miller lofted a sacrifice fly, allowing Bosse to score.

The Pacers return to action Sunday at 1 p.m., in the final game of the series.
