GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost a 7-2 contest at Lander Friday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 6-4 on the season, including a 2-2 mark against conference competition.
The tandem of Oliver Veskovac and Marie Habiyaremye put forth a tremendous effort at the No. 2 doubles spot, but the squad lost an 8-6 contest.
Despite being down 3-0 heading into singles action, head coach Steve Dahm's team continued to fight hard.
Shauna Williams, playing as the No. 1 seed, recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Marion Courbis. Veskovac was near flawless at the No. 4 position, winning 6-0, 6-1.
USC Aiken nearly snagged two more victories, but came up just short. Kayla Calvert lost a 2-6, 7-5, 8-10 match at the No. 3 slot while Habiyaremye came up just short at No. 5, falling 4-6, 7-6, 6-10.
The Pacers return to action on Saturday, March, 21. The squad will host GRU Augusta at 12 p.m.
