USC Aiken Set To Host Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 3 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is set to host the 18th annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate slated for March 9-10.

The course, founded in 1892, is the fourth oldest in the country. It covers 6,617 yards and plays as a par-70. The course has also been played as a par-71 in the past.

The 18-team tournament features 17 Division I programs in addition to the Pacers. The field includes Clemson, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, GRU Augusta, Idaho, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Loyola (Md.), Presbyterian College, South Carolina, USC Aiken, Virginia, Western Carolina, Wisconsin and Wofford.

Clemson is the reigning champion, having bested Virginia by two strokes in 2014. The Cavaliers trailed by six strokes heading into the final round, but the squad was unable to complete the comeback. The Tigers' Austin Langdale won the event with an even-par, 210.

Head coach Michael Carlisle's team tied for sixth, missing out on a top-four finish by just two strokes. After opening with a 295, the squad improved in each of the final two rounds. USC Aiken notched a 293 in the second round before coming home with a 288.

Leading the way for the Pacers was the tandem of Kyle Godsman and Brandon Robinson-Thompson. The duo each shot an eight-over par, 218, while tying for 17th. Stephane Boudreau was 12-over par for 31st while Hayden Letien and Gaines Milliner each posted an 18-overa par, 228.

Robinson-Thompson, an All-American, leads USC Aiken with a 72.6 stroke average. He also sports a 424-103 win-loss record on the season. Robinson-Thompson has won a tournament earlier this season.

Newcomer Axel Ostensson is just behind him, totaling a 72.9 stroke average. He carries a 419-108 mark through his 14 rounds of competition. Ostensson has one top-10 finish so far this season.

Redshirt-freshman Johnson Holliday has a top-five finish to his credit this season. His stroke average of 73.1 is essentially two-over par on the season. Holliday's win-loss record stands at 398-129.

Hubert Tisserand has played in seven rounds so far this season. He sports a 74.9 stroke average. Tisserand owns a low-round of 70 for the season.

Andrew Ward tallies a 74.5 stroke average this season and boasts a 314-213 win-loss mark. He has competed in all 14 rounds, with his low round being 71.

USC Aiken won its home tournament in 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Pacers' individual champions were Brock Ehler (1999), Aaron Black (2003), Roberto Diaz (2007) and Matt Atkins (2013).
