FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 victory at Francis Marion Thursday afternoon.
The Pacers improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 against conference foes.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team found itself trailing 2-1 after doubles action. During the doubles competition, No. 3 seed Mathias Degardin and Clement Raymond posted the lone victory by an 8-5 count. Second-seeded Alejandro Andino and Julien Tan narrowly lost a 9-7 decision.
USC Aiken garnered the team win by netting four singles victories.
Tan, ranked No. 42 in Division II, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win as the No. 2 seed for USC Aiken. Andy Quirk tallied a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the No. 4 spot while Degardin totaled a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 position. Andino closed out the overall win by posting a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over his counterpart at the No. 6 spot.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they play at Young Harris. The match is slated to start at 12 p.m.
