USC Aiken Drops Doubleheader To GRU Augusta

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken lost a pair of games to GRU Augusta Friday by scores of 3-2 and 8-0.

The Pacers are now 12-4 on the season and 4-2 against league foes.

Things started off well for head coach Jerry Snyder's squad. In the bottom of the first, Sarah Montei roped a pitch from Paige Deschaine over the center field fence for a 1-0 advantage.

Samantha Chubb followed Montei up with a solo blast over the left field fence for a 2-0 advantage.

The Jaguars plated a run in the fourth and fifth stanzas, knotting the contest at 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, USC Aiken had a chance to take the lead. With one down, Montei walked. Chubb belted a single to center field, putting runners on first and second. However, GRU Augusta was able to get the next two batters out, ending the threat.

The visitors scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Snyder's team would not give up.

Ericka David came in as a pinch hitter and reached on a fielding error. With one down, Andrea Daring laced a single up the middle. However, the next two batters went down swinging to end the game.

For the game, Taylor Morgan worked all seven innings. She gave up three runs on seven hits and had six strikeouts.

The Jaguars jumped on top in the second game with two runs in the first. Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third, Karly Kinard singled through the right side to lead things off and promptly went to second on Sydney Murphy's sacrifice bunt. After Montei walked, Kinard went to third on a passed ball. Chubb walked and the ball scooted away from the catcher. Kinard tried to score but was called out on the play.

GRU Augusta answered with a three-run homer in the fourth. Victoria Burkett tried to start a rally in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double. However, after advancing to third on a wild pitch, she was left stranded.

The visitors added another run in the top of the fifth and USC Aiken was unable to plate a run, ending the game on the run-rule.

The Pacers return to action Sunday at 1 p.m., when they host Armstrong State for a doubleheader.
